Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu and Deputy Minister for Communications Mohammed Adams Sukparu are reported to be in stable condition following a road accident on the Bolgatanga–Tumu road on Thursday, 12 February 2026. The incident occurred while the ministers were traveling with their convoy to the Upper West Region to participate in official anniversary events.

According to preliminary information, the accident involved one of the vehicles in the ministerial convoy. Emergency response teams and security personnel acted swiftly to ensure that all affected individuals received immediate medical attention. The ministers, along with other members of the convoy, were transported to a nearby medical facility for assessment and treatment.

Sources familiar with the situation confirmed that both ministers are stable and responding well to medical care. Doctors attending to them indicated that their conditions are not life-threatening, and they remain under observation as a precautionary measure. Other members of the convoy who sustained minor injuries are also said to be recovering.

The road accident briefly disrupted traffic along the Bolgatanga–Tumu corridor, a major route connecting parts of the Upper East and Upper West Regions. Law enforcement officers were deployed to manage traffic and secure the scene while investigations commenced to determine the cause of the crash. Early reports suggest that adverse road conditions or mechanical issues may have contributed, although authorities have not yet issued an official conclusion.

The incident has drawn widespread concern and well-wishes from across the country. Government officials, members of parliament, civil society groups, and members of the public have taken to social and traditional media to express relief that the ministers survived the accident and to wish them a speedy recovery.

Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu is a key figure in the current administration, overseeing major reforms in Ghana’s education sector, while Mohammed Adams Sukparu plays an important role in shaping government communication and digital policy. Their planned visit to the Upper West Region was part of activities marking regional anniversary celebrations, highlighting the government’s continued engagement with communities outside the capital.

In a brief update, officials assured the public that government operations remain unaffected and that appropriate arrangements are being made to ensure continuity of official duties while the ministers recover. Security agencies have also reiterated the importance of convoy safety and adherence to road safety protocols, especially during long-distance official travels.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to release a comprehensive report outlining the circumstances surrounding the accident and any measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. For now, the focus remains on the full recovery of the ministers and all those affected.

The government has thanked medical personnel, emergency responders, and security officers for their swift and professional response, while urging the public to remain calm and rely on verified updates as more information becomes available.
