If You Want Me, Write to Me Officially — El-Rufai Challenges Security Agencies Amid Probe Reports

Former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, told security operatives at the airport on Thursday that they should provide an official letter if they intend to invite him for questioning.

The statement was reportedly made following allegations made earlier by Muyiwa Adekeye, El-Rufai’s media adviser, who claimed that security operatives attempted to arrest the former governor when he arrived on a flight from Cairo.

According to Adekeye, El-Rufai refused to accompany the operatives because they did not present an official invitation, who later allegedly confiscated his passport from an aide.

The incident occurred at a time when the political crisis surrounding the former governor has intensified.

It was recalled that El-Rufai had alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government was plotting to arrest him.

El-Rufai, who is now a prominent figure in the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC), made the claim during an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday.

In recent weeks, he has increasingly criticised the Tinubu government and the leadership of the APC, the party under which he served as governor of Kaduna State for eight years.

During the interview, El-Rufai also alleged that some politicians were being pressured to either join the ruling APC or remain in it, at a time when there is a steady exodus from politics.
